What would happen if, rather than exhaling, we inhale as we speak, drawing our words into our lungs rather than expelling them out into the world?
Could inhale-speech become a ritualistic practice, fostering deep reflection on the cycle of our words-thoughts-actions? And could its 'other-worldly' quality establish a refreshed speaker-listener dynamic that we could term 'Deep Speaking', running parallel to 'Deep Listening'?
In December 2022, Yalda Younes recorded a series of experimental readings and songs, as part of a research on the evocative potency of ingressive speech. The work is still in the process of developing its outcome. You can get in touch if you want to see excerpts of the current 2 works in progress.
